The Spirit of Birth: The Series

Spirit of Birth marks the second time that Seventh Generation Midwives has participated in a documentary with Anishinaabe mother, writer, publisher, and director Rebeka Tabobondung. In this intimate docuseries, Rebeka Tabobondung, hosts viewers on a journey to the Indigenous midwives, birth workers, and families who are restoring midwifery and birth practices within their communities. In episodes 1 and 2, Indigenous midwives Emma Bilodeau and Kendra Pegg care for expecting mother Brianna. In episode 4, Cheryllee Bourgeoise organizes the team during a crisis. Episode 7 delves into our collaboration with Sunnybrook Hospital, and episode 8 wraps the series with our joyful annual picnic and welcoming ceremony for babies. The Spirit of Birth is a short documentary produced by MAAIINGAN Productions and Frog Girl Films directed by Rebeka Tabobondung that provides an in-depth look into the ways in which Indigenous birth practices are being actively restored through the work of Seventh Generation Midwives and the Toronto Birth Centre.
