Mardiya Aden
My name is Mardiya, and I am a fourth-year midwifery student completing my placement with Seventh Generation Midwives. I’m really excited to be joining the team and supporting clients throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys.
I am of Somali background and was born and raised in Scarborough. My interest in midwifery began in high school, as I always knew I had a passion for reproductive health. As I learned more about midwifery, I became especially drawn to the continuity of care model and the opportunity to build meaningful, trusting relationships with clients, which I find to be the most rewarding part of this work.
Before entering the Midwifery Education Program at Toronto Metropolitan University, I completed a year of Health Studies at York University, where I developed a deeper understanding of the healthcare system and the inequities experienced by Black and Indigenous birthing people. This continues to inform my commitment to providing respectful and culturally safe care.
In my spare time, I enjoy attending local community events, café-hopping, baking, and exploring different arts and crafts projects.
