Jodi Cormier, Midwife
Hi, my name is Jodi Cormier.
I believe that access to safe, culturally sensitive healthcare is a right that everyone is entitled to, and I strive to provide this quality of care to all my clients. My ancestry is largely French, as well as Irish and Qalipu Mi’kmaq. I grew up in Mississauga, and recently spent a decade living in Michigan.
Prior to becoming a midwife, I graduated from York University with a BSc in Kinesiology and from Sheridan College as a Certified Athletic Therapist. I worked as the Head of Athletic Training at a high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan for several years before I resigned to focus my time on my children.
I started my midwifery education in 2010, after teaching childbirth education for several years and enjoying a wonderful pregnancy and birth under midwifery care in Michigan. I earned a degree in midwifery and practiced in Grand Rapids for a year before completing the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program at Ryerson University in May 2016 to become registered to practice in Ontario.
I’m happy to be back home in Canada, honoured to be invited to support indigenous families throughout their journeys to parenthood, and excited to be working with the excellent team of midwives at SGMT!
When I’m not busy with clients I like to play sports with my two kids, listen to music or watch movies with my partner, or cozy up on the couch with a good book and a coffee.
